  1. Amazing story Matt! Such hospitality is always mind-blowing, especially when it involves strangers that we are meeting for the very first time.

Trond and Wakato seem like truly wonderful people!

  2. What a great story. Expensive mushrooms, octopus lollipops and inspirational people. Sounds like a fun, interesting adventure to me. And just think that it all started by reaching out to someone in a forum.

It just goes to show that the simple act of saying hello can lead to some great experiences.

  3. Very cool story, Matt. I hope to be in Japan myself in a couple of years, can’t wait to experience it. I’d love to try the capsule hotel, too! Very minimalist 😉

    1. haha totally…pretty much like a bunk bed with a TV and alarm clock. Fancy! haha. Actually had a good sleep despite waking up 4 hrs later to try and make it to the fish market. disappointed and wish I hadda kept sleeping hah

  4. This is such an awesome story Matt! I was laughing watching your face and that octopus lollipop. But beyond that humor this series is showing me how the simple word “hello” and being receptive to it can open up so many doors and adventures. Great story!

    1. haha I made it look so challenging. It was like boiled calamari haha. Yea its true huh. Reading all the stories in the series is pretty interesting. So cool to see all the different adventures that pop up.

  5. What a great story!
I love the way people can be so hospitable to visitors to their country. I love Japan too, and have had some great times traveling there.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about your business ideas too, Matt. I am about to launch myself into the world of business with very little idea of what I’m doing!

  6. Hey Matt!

How long are those capsule beds? For us vertically gifted, just want to check whether I’d fit in one or not.

    Where’s the next stop?

    1. haha… mmm From memory, they seemed about 6 foot long maybe but I can’t remember. Debating a road trip down the west coast USA! Yourself?

  7. I think I’ll have to settle for the feet dangling out the end..

Heading to Cambodia mid year to check out the ESL teaching opportunities. Hopefully getting over to Japan for some serious Japow snowboarding in Jan/Feb.

Loving the site, just reading through your back-catalogue now.

    1. haha thanks! Sounds awesome. I’ve always thought about teaching english one day. Japan pays well from what I hear but Cambodia sounds like a great time!
